Salt

Oil on panel, 20cm wide x 20cm tall.

This is a study of a shiny metal saltcellar. The saltcellar is of stainless steel or a chromed finish, near cylindrical in shape. It is quite stubby, with an indent running horizontally around it half way up. The top corner is rounded, make the top a slightly flattened dome. The is a single hole in the centre of the top to allow salt to flow out. The base of the saltcellar is black plastic, knurled to facilitate removal to replenish the salt.

The saltcellar sits on on a white surface. The scene is lit from a high 8 o'clock position, casting quite a deep shadow on the surface. The surroundings are reflected in the surface of the saltcellar, though they are out of focus. This is a highlight around the front of the saltcellar caused by light reflected from it.
